Sniper Elite is not so "Elite"
Sniper Elite as the name suggests is a sniping game. If you don't snipe and try to take head-on fights you are pretty much dead. If you like to hit those sweet moving headshots and really REALLY like sniping this game will not disappoint. The music, graphics, styles used in the game screams the 2000s era, it will remind you of classic games like the OG hitman games, freedom fighters, IGI, etc
The story is pretty basic, it's the end of world war 2, you are an American spy codenamed Eagle Watch, and your mission is to stop the NKVD from getting their hands on nuclear weapons. The story is basic and will not motivate you to unravel what happens next. The only thing that will motivate you to play this game is the level design which is very tactical and well placed and will force you to think about how to approach the situation.
The missions in Sniper Elite are divided into small chunks and you have limited saves in higher difficulty levels. The environment and working of mechanics are hyper-realistic, factors like wind, gravity, distance, and bullet penetration affect your shots. The map and tactics are yours to explore and enact, your actions can change the current objectives. There is a little bit of stealth here and there throughout the game but close combat is a major letdown as the game is majorly designed for sniping. The enemy AI is impressive as they flank and hide perfectly, sometimes you won't be able to see who's shooting until you're dead and the camera zooms. The game provides you with grenades, tripwires, time bombs, and TNT that will elevate your tactical abilities.
If you want to enjoy Sniper Elite you need a LOT of patience. The game offers a limited amount of saves forcing you to play the game slowly, scout areas, find the best course of action, and execute the same. The environments are complex and well-textured, they tend to blend in a mix of browns, muted greens, grays, and yellows. All in all the feel of the game gives you an accurate idea of what war looks like, the empty streets, emergency sirens, tanks in local markets, and troops patrolling streets.
If you like tagging enemies with a sniper rifle Sniper Elite and its detailed and satisfying sniping system will not disappoint you. It can sometimes get frustrating when you will have to reload your last save again and again. Though Sniper Elite is not revolutionary it is fun to play.
